Swim, Surf and Scuba at the Laguna de Xiloá

For a fun day trip from Managua head to Laguna de Xiloá, also called the Jiloa Lagoon, a crater lake located about 20 km Northeast of Managua. The water is clean and clear, and perfect for swimming.

Kayaking from Mérida across the lake and down the Istián River takes about an hour, but you won’t regret the trip. From the lake you can see the Maderas Volcano, which is dormant, and the taller active Concepción Volcano.
