It is hard to drum up tourism in a country living in the shadows of a tourism
giant like Costa Rica, but it is also a lot of fun. Nicaragua has so much to offer. One of my fave less popular places is Chinandega and Playa Amarillo in Tola for surfing.

Playa Roca Beach Hotel and Playa Roca Learning and Language Center is now serviced by a new road from Leon (only 20 miles away)to Playa Roca. It is also just a 15 minute beach walk to the fabulous wildlife preserve of Isla de Juan Venado. So not only surfing in great waves or learning Spanish, you see crocodiles, herons and sea turtles (tortugas). Hard to beat for the buck, even if it were double or more it is super inexpensive. We also could go skiing down the volcano's near by.
