Secluded Lakefront Hotel

La Posada Ecological la Abuela is a private little locally owned hotel that sits on the edge of a lake formed by the crater of an inactive volcano. The surrounding mountains make for the ultimate privacy fence, and the tranquil lake completes the peaceful scene. Kayaks are available if you want to paddle out onto the water, or you can just go out for a swim.

The owners are on site managing everything, which creates a close-knit, family friendlyNic2 feel. The abuela, meaning grandmother, treats every guest like an honored member of the family, but expects proper respect shown in return.

The cost is about average, running from $40-$80 US a night. Take a cab from Masaya and tell the driver to take you to “Laguna de Apoyo del triangulo, 2 kilometros al noreste.” You can also take a taxi from Grenada and Managua. The ride may cost a pretty penny, but La Posada Ecological La Abuela is worth it.
