Poneloya is one of the most famous of beaches along the Pacific coast of Nicaragua and Las Peñitas is her lesser known, but just as nice, sidekick. Traveling south from the city of León the road splits when it reaches the coast. Take the right fork for Poneloya, or
the left fork for Las Peñitas. You can catch a bus in León; they leave every half hour from the Subtiava Mercadito. First stop is Poneloya before heading on to Las Peñitas.
While Poneloya has always been popular, Las Peñitas is now receiving attention, due largely in part to her pristine beaches, smaller amount of tourist traffic and access to the Isla Juan Venado Wildlife Reserve. Accommodations can be found in Poneloya and Las Peñitas that match any budget, so make sure you explore some of Nicaragua’s Pacific coast.
